ADAM takes place in a dystopian future in which death has been outlawed and made obsolete. Tormented by mysterious nightmares, Adam finally understands the prophecy in his dreams, and soon begins a quest to become the first human to die. Initially his wife Eve is shocked, but then finds it in her heart to support Adam's mission. Seeing his choice as the only way to give meaning to his life and his love, Adam petitions the government to take his own life. But the authorities threaten him for exposing their great secret and seek to punish his transgression. Will Adam be doomed to eternal life or granted a reprieve in death? A surprise twist reveals how dream and reality—and life and death—can be indistinguishable.
Taking on challenging, contemporary themes of human enhancement, alienation and euthanasia, ADAM asks us to rethink what a life of love really means—and if it is possible to truly live outside of the shadow of death.
